Shannon is an active-duty Air Force colonel and C-130 pilot with extensive combat experience in airdrop, dirt strip, formation, medevac, and NVG flying. He served as an instructor and evaluator pilot for the C-130 schoolhouse, teaching Air Force pilots to fly the C-130, and he also flew as an instructor with the Iraqi Air Force. While stationed in his home state of Alaska, Shannon served as one of only eight pilots Air Force wide qualified to fly into “one-way sites”, gravel strips serving radar sites located in box canyons for which a go-around is not possible. Shannon is passionate about teaching, and defines his philosophy as, “Students deserve respect, and flying should be fun!”
Shannon is an Alaskan resident, has two grown sons, and lives on a sailboat in the Chesapeake.
