Heritage is proud to announce the opening of our new Multi-Engine Training Program. We recognize that there are two distinct groups of pilots seeking the MEL rating.
For busy professionals seeking the MEL rating as a required stepping stone to ATP we offer an accelerated program, saving your time and money. This program is for Commercial Pilots (often CFIs) with IFR ratings who come to the program at the top of their game and are willing to commit to extensive preparation and intensive, structured lessons to achieve their MEL in a short amount of time.
For seasoned Private Pilots (normally with IFR rating though this is not strictly required) who want to move up to the safety and performance of a second engine by owning or renting a twin, we offer a more tailored and less structured program.

The Accelerated Multi-Engine training program begins with the student being assigned materials to review at home. By thoroughly studying these materials you will arrive here prepared with a solid understanding of multi-engine aerodynamics, the details of the systems of the school's Twin Comanche, and the required multi-engine maneuvers. The first morning consists of a review of these materials and then ground instruction for the first flight including how to preflight the Twin Comanche, and maneuvers that will be performed in the introductory flight. The first flight generally occurs just after lunch, followed by debriefing, a short break, ground instruction, and then the second flight of the day. At the end of the day students are candidly assessed by our instructor team, and those who for whatever reason are not progressing as quickly as required for the accelerated program will be offered the opportunity to modify the program with additional needed instruction (at an extra, but discounted price). Days 2 and 3 follow the same general pattern, with two flights a day, each consisting of ground instruction, the flight, then the debrief. If required, a 3rd flight on day 3 will be used to practice for the Check Ride and lock in the required skills for success. The 4th day is the Check Ride and your MEL!
Here is what is included in the $6500 price of our program:
Detailed study materials about the Twin Comanche, Multi-Engine Aerodynamics, and Required Maneuvers
Breakfast and lunch - Microwaveable breakfast and subs and chips for lunch will be provided in the fridge so you can eat without taking time away from the airport.
Up to 10 hours of flight instruction over 3 days
Unlimited ground instruction over 3 days
Up to 2 hours flight time for the Check Ride with our DPE
Our "Pay as You Go" program is for seasoned Private Pilots who want to learn to fly multi-engine aircraft to move up to the safety and performance of a second engine. Unlike the accelerated program, which requires substantial preparation and has a lot of structure, the pay-as-you-go program is tailored to your skills and pace. You fly at the tempo you want, though as with all flight training programs flying frequently (we recommend at least twice a week) will help a lot in reducing the hours needed and reducing costs. An IFR is not required for this program, though it will be needed to make full use of a twin for cross country purposes. Should you need your IFR rating, we have other training programs for that, both accelerated and pay-as-you-go.
In the simplest terms, you let us know where you are in your flying journey, and we work with you to plan out an approach that will result in you becoming a fully proficient multi-engine pilot. With this approach in hand, you begin ground and flight work to make it happen! Lessons are paid for as you take them, so there is no large up-front cost for the program. That said, if you buy hours in 10 hours blocks we offer a 10% discount.
Most proficient single engine pilots can achieve their Multi-Engine rating in 12-20 flying hours if they fly 2-3 times a week with us.Heritage Air Flight School
